Position Overview
We are seeking a dependable and safety-focused Pilot Car Driver to escort oversized loads and provide on-site support to transport drivers. This role requires travel, physical labor and a strong understanding of escort vehicle operations and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
- Operate a pilot/escort vehicle for oversized loads in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Communicate effectively with transport drivers regarding route conditions, hazards and load movement
- Assist drivers with parking and positioning loads
- Provide labor assistance during tire changes and mechanical breakdowns involving escorted loads
- Perform pre-trip inspections of the pilot vehicle and required equipment
- Maintain compliance with all safety policies and escort requirements
- Travel out of town as required for assigned loads
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry 50+lbs
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical labor in roadside and job-site environments
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
(No DUI conviction within the past 5 years)
- Current Pilot Car/ Escort Vehicle Operator Certification for UT, NM, CO & AZ
- Ability to travel out of town and work flexible hours
- Strong communication skills and safety awareness
- Mechanical aptitude preferred
